The Vault Festival

GOING GLOBAL by Aradhana Arts

What a treat to have spent Sunday 12th March at the Vaults Festival for a show featuring Jaymini Sahai’s kathak dance and Sanju Sahai’s tabla. They were joined by the sitar player and vocalist Raaheel Hussain and harpist Georgie Pope.

Oxford Tabla has not been to the Vaults Festival before but enjoyed the whole day breathing in the atmosphere of Leake Street near Waterloo station with its variety of interesting cafes and the Vaults – a network of interesting spooky tunnels decorated with graffiti and something interesting to see at every turn – a tea table near the ceiling disguised as a boat.

Will definitely be back but this occasion was very special as we had not heard Sanju and Jaymini perform live for a long time. The pieces were extremely interesting ranging from classical Indian music to folk and middle eastern sounds and a touch of the fairy tale when the harp joined with the sounds

Well done!
